Bonefish are ancient aquatic predators which inhabit the upper regions of the abyssal zone, preferring to hunt in cold waters with little sunlight. Resembling a large koi whose head is encased in thick, bony plates, they have a beak like pair of sharp, forward jutting teeth that they use to tear into the flesh of their prey. They generally grow to be about 40-50 feet long and they never cease to grow as they age; especially successful speciments might grow to lengths of one hundred feet or more. They feed on nearly anything they can find--being so large, they can't afford to be picky. They prefer to eat giant squid, kraken, even whales if they can find one. While they rarely leave the twilight waters of the upper abyssal zone, they are occasionally drawn to the surface by intense activity or the prospect of food. Shipwrecks are of especial fascination to them and on rare occasions they have been known to attack ships in the hopes of finding food. They are fairly fast swimmers for their size and have no natural predators. The bony plates on their forquarters combined with a natural agility keep smaller, more viscious animals from feeding on them.
