Multi-Classing: Shaman

Multiclassing as a Shaman gives the character the same access to Stat bonuses and Feats as a Shaman but not the ability to use/wield pure Thaum or the ability to fully control shape-shifting events.  A Multiclass Shaman may walk no more than three Greater Ways (those that give Stat bonuses), or 9 Lesser Ways, before they must stop taking ranks in anything but the skills of a Shaman.

When a Multiclassing character walks one of the Ways they may gain (depending on the Way) Stat. points, Skill points, and/or Feats.  They are also likely to gain a couple of the idiosyncrasies associated with the particular Way they have walked (see table) and, if they have walked two Greater Ways or 6 Lesser Ways, an animal form.

Animal Form:

Because the Multiclasser is not a true Shaman their connection to the animal world is fairly tenuous (note: this is less true of Rangers and other such classes).  This lack of connection manifests in an inability to fully control the change to animal form, or the size of animal the character becomes.  All Multiclassers are subject to external events that may trigger the change to their animal form (see table).  The change may be halted and reversed by an act of will on the part of the character (standard DC 5 + Willpower, 7 + Willpower for Rangers etc).  A purposeful shape change has a DC of 10 + Willpower.

Calculating Animal Form Stats:

Because it takes Shamanic training, and the use of pure Thaum, to fully control the gifts of the Ways the Multiclasser, while capable now of taking on an animal form, is not totally capable of leaving himself behind.  This inability manifests in two significant manners.

Firstly the stats of his animal form are the base stats of the animal +1 for every stat point over 5 held by the character.  All skills the animal is still capable of using are also partially retained.  The human form’s skill points are halved and any species bonuses are then added to give the total point count.  It should also be noted that all feats gained via The Ways are transferable to animal forms.

Secondly the Multiclasser finds it difficult to leave his true size behind.  The size difference effect the speed and damage done by the animal form.  It also increases the likelihood that the animal form will be considered an aberration.

Base Animal Stats:

For base animal stats see the stats in the D&D Monster Manual.   Stat transfer to the Circle system from D&D is done by adding 5 points to the D&D Ability Modifier for each stat (see table for stat equivalencies).  Initiative is equivalent to Dex. + the Species Bonus.  All species Stat Bonuses are added to the D&D Stat to determine the Ability Modifier, not to the modifier itself.  Species skill bonuses are halved and rounded up.  “Special Qualities” remain as they are.
