Charis Liadan

was a member of the group known to history as the Daoine.

Background

Early Life

Charis began life on the southern planes of Harkania.  Her father was the horse trainer of the Crimson Tassel Caravan and her mother a dancer of notable skill.  At the age of four her marriage was arranged to the son of the leader of the Golden Bridal Caravan.  When Charis was seven, the marriage contract fell through.

Knowing they would never be able to marry their daughter off Charis’ parents left her with a dancer in the port city of Rakalo.  When Charis was ten, the dancer – realizing she had something of a prodigy on her hands - took Charis to Gnaupoor where she enrolled Charis in the house of Shifting Silks: a courtesan training house that specializes in training entertainers to be the perfect companions to members of the royal houses of the Sunset Islands.

Charis excelled in her training and her contract was given to the Emperor who, in turn, contracted her to the prince of Rajvahanabad, the city of emeralds, Maharaja Ahmitab Singh.  Ahmitab was a noted sadist known to torture people to death merely for the fun of it.  Charis spent a year and a half with him – as his perfect companion – before the information she gathered warranted an assassination order from the Emperor.  In her time with him Ahmitab gifted Charis with two things: a complete matched knife set (including flaying knives) and a mitharl filigree necklace set with a single large emerald.  The morning after Charis' escape, Ahmitab was found dead in his bed.  He had been flayed alive.

After her escape Charis – instead of returning to the Emperor – headed north to Fort Terremirius where she became part of the diplomatic core.

Nurgle's Ascention

During this time Charis traveled with the Daoine and met her future husband Gaius Vorenus Lunarus and, through her contact with the savant Lyra Svingoll, that Charis’ previously latent sorcery was awakened.

It was also at this time that her somewhat fraught relationship with the chaos god Slaanesh began.

After leaving the Daoine in Darkridge, Charis and Gaius made for the Cthonic Court in search of information.

Cthonic Court

It was during her time at the Cthonic Court that Charis assumed the last name Liadan (Grey Lady).

Physical Description

4'11" with dark brown hair, emerald green eyes, and fair skin she is in the sort of perfect physical condition that can only be achieved by professional dancers.  She is also, in part due to her convoluted relationship with Slaanesh, one of the most attractive women to have ever lived.  For this reason she very rarely goes into public without making an attempt to tone down her appearance.  The success of these attempts tends to be mitigated slightly by the grace and suppleness of her movements which would lend a certain type of attractiveness to even the most plain of face.

Undisguised Charis sports a kings ransom in head jewelry - a perfect 15 carat, oval cut, emerald set in, surprisingly tasteful, mithral filigree - embedded into her skin.

On her right hip bone is a tattoo of a golden fan.

Personality

Charis’ personality is hard to pin down.  As a consummate actress and social manipulator she tends to project whatever personality is most useful to her at the moment.  Highly intuitive she has shown a tendency for unilateral action and an unrelenting hatred for those who harm others for pleasure.  Far from petty she is able to put her own needs and feelings aside in order to achieve a greater goal.  Angering her, however, is almost always a death sentence. Totally incapable - once angry - of either forgiving or forgetting she has been know to – unbeknownst to those around her - hold onto grudges until the person who has aroused her anger is no longer useful/has fulfilled their purpose before killing them or destroying them utterly.

Familiar

Nurgle

A raccoon the size of a large spaniel (weighing about 60 lbs) Nurgle is something of a scamp and can be a complete pest when Charis is not around to keep him under control.

Gaius

Charis’ marriage to Gaius is more a marriage of convenience than of love.  Though she is sincerely fond of Gaius her personal goals have always come first.  In the beginning their equally obsessive personalities meshed fairly well due to a perceived common goal.  As time went by Gaius – always the more impatient of the two – became more and more afraid that his goals would never be achieved.  His building frustration lead to vicious quarrels that would often cause Charis to storm out on him for months at a time.

Their relationship was placed under further strain by Charis’ close friendship and working partnership with Maris Dalkin.  Gaius’ love for Charis being of the jealous narcissistic variety, he came to distrust Maris’ intentions towards Charis whom Gaius had come to consider his personal property.

Relations between Maris and Gaius became even less cordial when Charis disappeared after a particularly nasty confrontation of wills with Gaius.
