Bunyip
Bunyip
Height: 4 feet Length: 10-12 feet Weight: 2 tons Lifespan: 40-50 years Habitat: Central Arcadia Diet: Piscivorous Nearest Relation: Distant relative of the horse, but resembles hippopotami
Resembling a large hippopotamus with smoother, softer fur clinging to its body and a smaller head with sharper teeth, Bunyips are usually covered in green river algae which grows along their fur. The Bunyip was long thought to be a a water spirit with the power to cause floods. This has since been disproved. Rather flooding occurs around Bunyip wallows because of a peculiar technique of dredging the river bottom for shellfish and bottom-feeders by kicking its powerful hind legs which occasionally causes the surface water to jostle and splash, appearing to rise up from the surface.
Like its cousin the hippopotamus, it has been known to kill men, especially those it sees as a threat to its harem or calves. Though slow on land, it is a surprisingly fast swimmer and has a viscious bite usually ridden with disease from the algae and bacteria that grow on its hide.
