Athol
Athol
Height: 5 - 7 feet Length: 20 + feet Weight: Lifespan: Habitat: Badlands east and north of Sevilla Diet: Carnivorous Nearest Relation: Bats
Living in colonies of up to one-hundred individuals and hunting nocturnally in packs, Athols are giant bat-like creatures. They are a formidable force to be reckoned with if one happens upon them unprotected. An Athol has a wingspan of twenty or so feet and a body that is nearly five feet long. They are lightly built with hollow bones and tough, sinewy muscle. Their legs are reverse jointed like a horses and end in deadly claws. Their faces are long, and covered in fleshy pink skin which makes them look almost as though they have human faces. Huge ears detect the most minute of sounds and aid them in hunting.
They hunt using a combination of echo-location and acute hearing and descend in dozens upon unsuspecting prey. They have been known to carry off children and to rip horses to pieces in just a few passes. They are nocturnal, preferring to sleep during the day in massive cave complexes which extend sometimes for miles underground.
The Chaos energies that pervade the badlands have given them the ability to warp air and space around them, which eases their flight and has allowed some to grow to nearly seven feet tall and still operate with only a twenty foot wingspan. Some of them also have gained the ability to warp in and out of reality, becoming deadly and effective hunters as they swoop down out of seeming nothingness.
