Aelven Woodbeast (Owlbear)
Aelven woodbeast, also called Owlbear or Aelven Warbeast
Height: 8 feet at the shoulder Length: Weight: 3 + tons Lifespan: Habitat: Deep woods of Harkania, mostly around the ruins of Qeentah'arha and the Greyland forest Diet: Carnivorous, scavengers in times of scarcity Nearest Relation: Gryphon
Woodbeasts are massive relatives of the gryphon and another remnant of Aelven genetic manipulation.
They are powerfully muscled and built from large mammalian predator stock, probably ursine, through other traces are present as well. They have massive forelimbs tipped by three-toed paws that end with wicked, talon-like hooks. Their hindquarters are smaller than the forequarters but still massively muscled. Their coats tend to be shaggier than those of gryphons, though the dark coloration remains the same. Their faces end in aquiline beaks, serrated and bald. It has a horny ridge above the eyes, tufted with downy feathers that gives them a strigine look and has led to their folk-name "owlbear." They also sport small bony antlers knubs from their head which were thought to have been antlers back in the days of the aelves. They stand a massive eight feet tall at the shoulder and can weigh over three tons when fuly grown. They are bad tempered and dangerous predators, though not above scavenging if food is scarce.
